What are Step Drills? Step drills, also known as step drill bits, are specialized drill bits designed for creating holes of various diameters in thin materials such as metal, plastic, and wood. They are particularly useful in applications where multiple hole sizes are needed but changing bits frequently is impractical.

Step drills are ideal for drilling steel sheets up to 6.0mm thick and stainless steel sheets up to a thickness of 1.5 mm, also they are suitable for drilling non-ferrous metals and plastics.

Taper drill bits are primarily used for drilling sheet metal and hard plastics and will drill a hole of any size diameter between the smallest and largest hole, the diameter of a tapered drill bit gets gradually smaller from top to bottom.

Cone cuts are step drills have a conical shape with a series of stepped increments, each step representing a different diameter.
